The company Opera Software was the first among the manufacturers of popular browsers to
release a version with a built-in ad blocker (on the
Opera developer channel). Developers say that when this feature is activated, the page loading speed increases to 90% (compared to the disabled blocker).
The built-in function works more efficiently than third-party extensions. Filtering occurs at the engine level, which extensions cannot do. New Opera downloads ad-free pages 31% faster than Chrome + AdBlock Plus and 17% faster than Firefox + AdBlock Plus.
“Advertising supports the Internet, allowing many services to remain free for users. But as shown by our recent study, the loading of most web pages today is slowing down a lot due to bloated ads and heavy tracking. For us, this is unacceptable - we want the web to become better for all of us as users, ”
said Krystian Kolondra, lead programmer at Opera Software and head of Opera for PC.

Indeed, recently the dominance of advertising has become one of the main annoying factors on the Internet. Not surprisingly, in 2014-2015, the audience of ad blockers
increased by 41% .
In the new version of Opera, advertising is simply disconnected at the touch of a button.

They also built benchmarks in the browser to compare page loading speed with and without advertising.

Now Opera uses the
EasyList list for blocking, including the regular list for blocking ads, and EasyPrivacy to prevent trackers from loading.
