Fintech Digest: PayPal raises commission fees, eBay simplifies posting, and Rospatent wants to switch to blockchain

And Visa, Mastercard, American Express and Discover create a unified service.

The past week was both challenging and interesting. Difficult - because many services, even domestic ones, refused to work due to the large amount of blocked IP-addresses by Roskomnadzor. Interesting - because new technologies continue to evolve, making our lives easier.

True, not always. For example, PayPal, the system to which we are all accustomed, on the contrary, somewhat complicates the life of its users .

PayPal worked for the benefit of users for 20 years, helping to transfer electronic money to fiat money without any problems and vice versa. Moreover, the commissions were quite low, so no one had any problems with this (well, with rare exceptions).

But now the management of the system has decided to change the payment structure for users. In the United States, for example, for any type of payment it is planned to charge a fee of $ 4.99, and if the transaction is made through a credit or debit card, then another 2.9% is added. Plus, a margin of 2.5% is also charged based on the actual rate in the payment system itself. PayPal Australia collects even higher - about $ 6.

All this leads to unexpected consequences for users. For example, one of the users of Reddit said that he was buying a gadget for 60 euros, but when he bought PayPal, through which the transaction was carried out, he removed an additional 17 euros.

As soon as the card systems and various cryptocurrency services found out about the changes, we decided not to wait, but to begin to actively compete with PayPal. For example, the same Visa and Mastercard card systems, together with American Express and Discover, gathered to unite to create a unified service to which the user can link a plastic card and pay for their online purchases without problems and worries.

By the way, eBay decided to make life easier for sellers by adding a barcode scanning function to the application. As a result, you can add something in minutes. The feature is added simultaneously in both Android and iOS.

All you need to do is scan the barcode of the product that you plan to sell, indicate the state (new, used, non-working, etc.) and place. Actually, a trifle, but nice.

Well, Rospatent decided to switch to the blockchain , transferring the entire system of registration of intellectual property rights to a new technology. The head of Rospatent, Grigory Ivliev, stated that the smart contract, which will ensure the transfer of intellectual property rights, will be needed by the Office in the near future, within a few months. Moreover, the new infrastructure will be functional: “Intellectual property is not only bought, it acts as a pledge, it is evaluated, there are still many other options that can be offered. And just the blockchain allows you to organize them faster, safer, safer and better. Now we are building such a system in the matter of the transfer of rights. ”

According to him, at the moment the blockchain must be used when disposing of intellectual property rights. But now, in order to begin to dispose of their rights, it is required to conclude an agreement, registering the disposal of the exclusive right with Rospatent. When using the blockchain, you can register the contract in the distributed registry, passing mandatory checks during the registration.
