Robot Ubiko finds cigarettes by smell

Japanese developers made a robot that travels around the building and sniffs everything. He smells the slightest smell of smoke. The receptors are so sensitive that the robot picks up even the aroma of a cigarette from the next room and a smoky sweater.

The Ubiko model was developed by tmsuk together with researchers from two Japanese universities. The 112-pound, 60-pound robot is equipped with a unique set of olfactory sensors, specifically designed to detect the smell of smoke and burning.

Humanoid-type robot moves on wheels. During the demonstration on February 21, 2007, he patrolled four rooms with completely different smells: the first smelled of perfume, the second - garlic, the third smelled of nothing, and in the fourth there was an ashtray. So, Ubiko successfully found an ashtray and called security on the radio.

At the moment, the robot is not equipped with fire extinguishing tools. But by uncomplicated modifications, it can be supplied with a fire extinguisher - that's when the smokers just do not say hello. In principle, it is possible to supply him with cologne and program it so that it will spray on those who have just returned from the smoke-filled room.
