Visual Basic on GNU / Linux? Why not?

Mono developers (a free .NET implementation) reported that they are developing a Visual Basic compiler that will allow developers writing in Microsoft Visual Basic to run their programs on any platforms that run Mono (for example, on GNU / Linux) without any code modifications.

One question remains: do we need it?
