EuroCIS 2018, the international specialized exhibition of retail technology, was held in Düsseldorf, Germany. A delegation from the Pilot also took part in it. We tell you what technologies have impressed and pleased us.
Toshiba POS Computers
Toshiba is a well-known and proven manufacturer of reliable POS computers (cash registers). At EuroCIS 2018, the vendor demonstrated its advanced solutions:
')
- Toshiba Self Checkout self- checkout with a modern design design. The model has enhanced color display functionality, which simplifies customer interaction with the self-service system. Compared with previous models, Toshiba Self Checkout has become more compact. But it retained the inherent reliability, performance, and modular design that provides flexibility.

- Toshiba D10 compact system unit based on AMD processors ( see video ).
- Printer TCx Dual Station Printer, which allows you to print receipts and labels much faster ( see video ).
- The TCx Elevate e-commerce platform, which helps retailers pay back investments faster by introducing innovations towards digital business transformation.
TSD, scanners and mobile computers from Zebra
The Zebra Technologies booth featured scanners, data collection terminals (TCD) and mobile computers. Among the new products:
- The MP7000 Weighing Scanner Model - quickly scans and is distinguished by high uptime and low power consumption: saving up to 60% compared to similar models in its class.
- Desktop label printer ZD420.
- New universal TSD 3000-series based on Android, which can work both at a short distance and at a considerable distance ( see the video ).
Self-service cash desks from Vimana
The Polish company Vimana has gained popularity due to its innovativeness, reliability and reasonable price: its self-service solutions cost 20-30% less than models of famous competitors.
At EuroCIS 2018, Vimana arrived with:
- Self-service station with weighing platform of increased size (78 cm by 65 cm) for large purchases.

- Cash self-service system: in addition to the size (45 to 80 cm), it boasts a quick cash handling. For example, a model can take small change in handfuls. And the function of recycling banknotes and coins allows the retailer to reduce the cost of collection.
- Cashless self-service system in a new modular design. It has a small footprint - 47 by 50 cm. Due to the lack of expensive cash handling components, it will allow retailers to reduce the cost of ownership of the system (ROI).

Electronic price tags
At EuroCIS, manufacturers have demonstrated a range of
electronic price tags , among them:
- Hanshow - new models with a yellow display, as well as the usual cold-resistant electronic price tags with LED-light.

- French SES Imagotag - tag models of electronic price tags for fashion retailers.
- Opticon - models of LCD-price tags and power system, which transmits current immediately through the mounting rail. Such price tags do not need a battery.

Chinese POS systems
Despite the fact that the exhibition was held in Germany, at times it looked like the Shanghai market: so much was “Chinese partners” on it, as it is customary to call it now. The Chinese are very successfully trying to enter many niches where only large vendors have previously played.
The Chinese can see solutions as a very decent, and very low quality. The latter are focused on small stores format "at home". By the way, it was near the stands of the second one that one often could see Russian “producers” of POS systems.
The Chinese have shown:
- Touch and mobile cash registers.
- TSD and barcode scanners.

Usually, manufacturers of self-service systems offer not just hardware, but a full-fledged software and hardware complex. Alas, the Chinese colleagues in this are still weak. Outwardly, their models look decent, but the hardware and software remains raw. And this may cause difficulties in integration with the existing infrastructure of the customer.
Trends
We summarize. EuroCIS 2018 highlighted the following trends:
- Avoiding industrial design, in the direction of an elegant style.
- Reducing the size of the devices - all manufacturers are trying to play on saving space.
- Omnichannel solutions are gaining momentum.
- In the near future, the place of one of the main players on the OS market for POS systems will be taken by Android (Fuchsia) - more and more cash registers, through the efforts of Chinese partners, are being released on Android.
- Embedding all self-service systems in the overall omni-channel scheme.
