FastTrack Training. "Network Basics". "The Value of Cisco Wireless Local Area Networks". Eddie Martin December 2012
About a year ago, I noticed an interesting and fascinating series of lectures by Eddie Martin, which, thanks to its history and real-life examples, as well as its tremendous learning experience, is amazingly comprehensible and allows you to gain an understanding of quite complex technologies.
FastTrack Training. "Network Basics". "The Value of Cisco Wireless Local Area Networks". Eddie Martin December 2012
Consider what customers think about wireless networks. We divide our board into 2 parts - the WLAN column on the left and the Cisco WLAN column on the right. What is generally important for the client in these networks? That's right, this is BYOD, the ability to use your own mobile devices for work. If you talked about BYOD, consider that you have opened a full can of worms and abandoned the bait. Perhaps there is only one unaffected direction in the organization in which they would like to use BYOD in some form, all these devices will need to be connected to wireless networks, and this is a real part of the business process. Therefore, we add the second important use of wireless networks - the business process. This affects the business process.
My question to you is: “Is IT the place where business processes can be found?” Not at all! In IT, we are used to sitting behind closed doors and playing Angry Birds, say. And the first thing we do when you call us at the moment “Oh, I'm already at the 20th level!”, We say: “Dude, we are busy, we will help you as quickly as we can”. This is what we do. I hate it, but it's true. IT specialists do not know business processes, they are not directly connected with their clients. Therefore, if you are told that you need to go to someone and find out, will you go to IT specialists to learn about business processes? No, you go to retail, to the people who are there to find out about all this.
I understand how technology works, but as a consultant I turn to such people to find out what technology is in demand. Some time ago I didn’t do this, but now I’m doing it more and more often, as it affects our business.
I will address you: “How many clients have you sold your services, 20? Ah, a whole 6! Well, with time they will be more or less, but I wish you only success! And how much do you have, hundreds of customers? Even thousands? Choose a few mature ones and get their opinion; you cannot do this with everyone, but with a few it is quite possible. ”
Now let's move to the right column — Cisco wireless networks. The first is that we are market leaders in this area. But here is the greatest competition, great noise and din, we all have it. I mean that in our position there are some things hanging from the ceiling, and if they fall, they will surely kill someone, such things frighten me. But when I look around, I see that despite the fact that there is competition everywhere, we still occupy 50% of the market! This is due to the fact that we have shifted to innovation, aimed at meeting the needs of business and industrial processes. Add this to the second item. How do we do this? Directly we introduce on the ground such advanced technologies as:
Client link Video stream Mobility Security
And the like, which has a significant impact on BYOD.
Note. You can learn more about these technologies from Eddie Martin’s previous lectures. For example about Client Link here . And information about The mobility services engine and wireless security is very well represented in the previous lecture .
We kind of “wrap” all this in our product, we have the opportunity to make all this important for the client.
But all this is inextricably linked with the "business processes" in the left column. We’ll make this a necessary requirement for business people, let them understand how Cisco WLAN features are important to them.
Let's add one more important property of our networks - service and technical support. We can provide all this around the world and it sets us apart from our other competitors who do not want to conquer new markets and work in this direction, therefore the provision of services and technical support around the world qualitatively distinguishes us from them. We have partners around the world today.
Finally, I add the line "Cisco Capital". I repeat again: “Why do we buy something? Because it changes a lot! ”
And I am a big supporter of this, and firstly, when I go to talk with the heads of IT departments, I will learn about their vision for their cloud strategy. Why? Because I firmly believe that cloud technologies make a lot of sense. Since in the end I want to go this way, instead of installing a whole bunch of different devices around me. I’m sure that Cisco, with the help of partners, can easily and easily transfer me to the cloud if I want a cloud-based wireless solution for a while.
Note. Additional information on the use of cloud technologies in Cisco is contained in previous articles. In particular, in the previous lecture, the value of using Cisco software in cases of use on its servers is indicated.
Cisco sells software for VMWare virtual machine controllers. For this we have the so-called virtual controllers. They are designed for 200 access points and three thousand clients, in addition, they support management in several different locations and everything else. In general, everything is the same, but on a virtual server. When you order it, you actually get an image of a real controller. This is a very important function in the modern world, where people do not want to buy all these uplines.
This is what concerns the value of wireless networks.
