Kali Linux 2018.1 rolling-release, which contains many updates: updated packages, updated kernel, which provides better hardware support, updated tools, took place.
Kali Linux is a distribution kit that contains many utilities for conducting penetration testing - from analyzing web application vulnerabilities to hacking networks and services and consolidating into the system. Previously, this distribution was known as Backtrack.
Kali Linux 2018.1 has a new kernel 4.14.12, in which I would like to note two new features:
Supports AMD encrypted memory encryption. This is a feature available in new AMD processors that allows you to automatically encrypt / decrypt DRAM. Adding these features means that systems will no longer be vulnerable to cold-boot attacks, because even with physical access, the memory will not be readable. (+ for paranoids)
Increased memory limits. In modern (and older) 64-bit processors, there is a limit of 64 TB of physical address space and 256 TB of virtual address space (VAS). Support for 4 PB of physical memory and 128 PB of virtual memory have been added to kernel 4.14. (+ for those who measure the amount of memory in petabytes).
The update also includes the removal of several errors and new versions of such popular utilities as: zaproxy, secure-socket-funneling, pixiewps, seclists, burpsuite, dbeaver, and reaver. Support for running under the Hyper-V hypervisor is also improved.
To update the previous distribution you need to run:
# apt update && apt full-upgrade
If you haven't updated your distribution kit for a long time, you need to add a new repository key:
# wget -q -O - https://archive.kali.org/archive-key.asc | apt-key add
Or you can download a new image from the official page .
