January 29, 2018, died Sean Pierce, a well-known programmer, author, committer and founder of many projects, including Git, Jgit, libgit and Gerrit Code Review.
An outstanding developer, a real engineer and a great manager died, leaving wonderful boys, a wife and ... all the open source community.
Almost a year ago, when he was diagnosed with lung cancer, he had only one request, do everything possible, look after the boys and Sarah to help them during the transition period.
He joined the Git-project in 2006 and has since been one of the most productive project developers. Its merits include many basic functions such as the Git-over-HTTP protocol, the concept of fast-import (which many other version control systems later adopted), the concept of reflogs.
This one is - @{}
- it too!
He is the author of the first graphical Git client (git-gui on tcl / tk, then I first got the opportunity to work with him, he really is an extra class pro).
The Eclipse IDE received full support for Git when it wrote JGit, rewriting Git from Java from scratch.
A huge number of people use git, it is really popular. And it is absolutely certain that because Sean also had a hand in his creation. Indeed, without it, the whole Git mainstream would be completely different.
Do not list all that he did for the open source community as a developer, but especially he will be remembered as an excellent leader and organizer.
His last commit:
commit ea974d725ed1d5d5ffa1461bef7986168819dee3 Merge: e650e06 bd42cc7 Author: Shawn Pearce <sop@google.com> Date: Wed Jan 3 01:06:03 2018 +0000 Merge "Prolog cookbook: attribute success to uploader, not author"
The Git and SFC project mourns the demise of Sean Pierce, the oldest developer and member of the Git community.
Remembering Shawn Pearce
The Git project of the Shit Pearce, a long-time developer and member of the Git community.
There is the Sean Memorial Fund , and his family asks people to donate for cancer research, instead of wreaths and flowers.
Children and Sarah - we grieve with you. God bless you.
