Robotic cars are getting closer

A few days ago, some details became known about the main contender for the Urban DARPA Challenge race prize - an open competition for car projects driven by fully automatic robotic systems.

The development of Stanford University, stuffed with the most up-to-date electronics of the Volkswagen Touareg, which the creators gave the name Junior, will be the first such system in the race that will not require a separate power source for their work.

Several video cameras, GPS equipment, laser scanners of the environment, and a whole bunch of unique technological advances will be served by Intel Core 2 Duo and Quad processors, which have very low power consumption and high performance. All this was enough 1000 watts, which is able to give the car electronics.
