This year was not easy . Habrahabr spent its eleventh year productively and interestingly. We improved services, redesigned, held seminars, conferences, met users from the sandbox, - in general, developed services as they could. UFO flashed here and there, but now it is on refueling in the hangar, and we have a minute to talk about the results of the year - only first-hand.
By the way, if you want to know the same thing about Giktayms -
you are here .
Some bare figures.

In 2017, 11,637 publications were created, of which 10,965 were published. In 2016, there were slightly more publications - 13,094 were created, but only 12,255 were published. For various reasons (registered, randomly placed, with violations, etc.) in 672 publications turned out to be draft copies, and last year - 839. This is approximately 5% of the total, which, in fact, is also quite a lot. But in general, users have become kinder - the number of pluses has increased, and the number of minuses has decreased.
Of all the published materials, 1,148 publications received the mark “Tutorial” (in 2016, 1,208).
Despite numerous requests to add markdown markup (which we
added at the beginning of 2016), for 2017 the year only 1 921 publications were written, that is, only 16.5% of the total (1,322 in 2016). We hope that in 2018 we will correct this alignment in favor of the WYSIWYG editor, for which we have big plans.
With a decrease in the number of publications in 2017, their total length was 152,738,122 characters (in 2016 this figure was 150,051,882). This is approximately 84,854 A4 sheets, that is, almost 170 packs (500 sheets each) or a volume 8.84 meters thick (based on the thickness of a sheet of A4 paper 0.104 mm). Until the football field still do not reach, right?
If we calculate the average number of characters per publication, then in 2017 the volume of material averaged 13,125 characters, and in 2016 - 11,459 characters, that is, 7.3 and 6.4 sheets, respectively. It's nice that neither Twitter nor Instagram have spoiled Habr's readers - they still love Longrid and read even sooo long articles (which is confirmed by the results of our survey). And they are so fond that the materials with only one video are mercilessly negative, and the gurus of IT conferences do not post even ultra hardcore videos without decoding. Read useful, do not argue.

Users
At the time of publication of the record on Habré, 841,122 users are registered, of whom 146343 (17.39%) are men, 12163 (1.44%) are women and 682,616 (81.15%) are undecided.

In 2017, 107,649 users registered (full-fledged, ReadOnly and Read & Comment), which is 12.7% more than in 2016. In total, 2,534 invitations were issued this year, of which 1,901 are users and UFOs, 633 are companies. At the same time, 164 invitations are in a pending state (issued, but not activated). An invitation can hang up for many reasons, but as long as it is not activated, you can always withdraw it and send it to someone who really needs it.

Hubs and Authors
The “Programming” hub became the most popular hub in 2017 (it had 1,398 publications, that is 12.7% of all posted; 44,184 comments), and you can compare the tops in 2016 and 2017 in the tables below. The most concise in 2017 turned out to be publications on information security, and the most rated and long - publications on game development. It seems that there is a considerable merit of
PatientZero with its detailed and interesting translations - he wrote 178 publications with an average rating of +42. He turned out to be the most prolific author of the year. Behind him comes the corporate author
ru_vds (169 publications) and
m1rko (130 publications and the average rating for them is +44). Even among the champions in fecundity, we can mention the user
sp1nfox , who created 66 test publications to discover an
interesting vulnerability on Habré, which we promptly closed. And the author of this virtual and the catcher of bugs was
Mehdzor , for which he thanks.
Miraculously (in fact, by returning the prodigal Megamind), “Internet marketing”, which hit the top in 2016, naturally failed to withstand the competition and left 2017 rating hardcore. “System administration” took off from 9th place to 4th place, and this is deserved: many articles on DevOps, high-load systems, server technologies and ITSM have been published.
“Development for Android” dropped out of the rating in 2017, lost its position and mobile development as a whole, but immediately “Machine learning” came in 9th place, and it seems that in 2018 it will rise even higher - except for tutorials and practical articles, this section get interesting and exciting analysis of tasks from hakatons and competitions. "IT-infrastructure" entered the rating immediately from 6th place - this is a consequence of a large number of articles on hardware and software for business.
By the way, the most popular tags were javascript, python, java, android, development, linux, programming, c ++, php, ios.

60Happy New Year!
The year of the IT specialist (programmer, tester, sysadmin, etc.) is always more than a year - these are new releases, and endless commits, tickets, unintelligible users, nervous days. Such is the situation in this world, but it is the IT environment that has largely become what determines the near future. Therefore, let us do together the year 2018 so that all technologies and innovations are in the name of good. We, in turn, will try to keep the level, to develop and make Habr and Hiktimes more convenient, more useful and richer.
Happy New Year!
