Analysis of publications on Habrahabr for 2017. Statistics, useful finds and ratings

By the end of 2017. It's time to sum up some of the results. How was this year on Habrahabr? To answer this question, we, at Cloud4Y , decided to collect statistics on all publications over the period since the beginning of the year. In this article we will talk about what seemed to us the most interesting.

From January 1 to 18:00 on December 22, 2017, 10,684 posts were posted on Habrahabr, which have been viewed about 123 million times! We did not include into account 46 megaposts and publications that were hidden or transferred to Geektimes. On average, about 900 posts were published per month, and March was a record one.
')

The ratio of publications between corporate and personal blogs habrovchan for the analyzed period amounted to 51.7% to 48.3%. The share of publications in companies' blogs was the lowest in January. This is due to the long New Year holidays. The most "corporate" was May.

The average publication in 2017 gained 11,500 views and a rating of +20. At one "average" post there were 70 users who added it to the "Favorites", and 30 comments to discuss it. Posts from personal blogs lead in the number of views (+ 10%), adding to Favorites (+ 22%) and the number of comments (+ 48%).

Median values: views 7400, rating 14, add “To favorites” 45, comments 12.

The graph below shows the number of views for posts that are sorted by publication date. That is, for example, from 0 to 500 is the very beginning of the year or 500 first publications. As you can see, the publications consistently gain "their" views and systematically appear "abnormally" interesting publications with 50000+ views.

The density of distribution of publications for the year fits into a log-normal distribution, which is explained by the Habrahabr voting system. We wrote more about this here and here .

Hub leaders

During the year publications were placed in 320 hubs. Not all hubs are equally popular, but to accommodate 80% of publications took about 90 of the most popular hubs, i.e. subjects - very diverse. The top 10 hubs include 26% of 2017 publications.

It was also curious to know whether the number of selected hubs has an impact on the popularity of the article. As companies additionally add their publications to the hub “Company Blog XXX” (there were 444 different in 2017), we decided to compare only articles in the personal blogs of Habrovchan. We had to pump our Excel a lot, but the result seemed interesting to us.

As we can see - since 2 hubs, the increase in views is very weak. Although at the level of statistical error, the situation is somewhat different for corporate blogs. The maximum number of views on average collect articles with 1 additional hub. Perhaps this is the result of the fact that most of the posts in corporate blogs are filled with hubs "to the eyeballs", and more interesting publications are narrowly thematic.

You can work with such a large and interesting data array for a long time. In order to know the measure, we decided to stop at this. If you are interested in any dependence of indicators or statistics, leave a comment, if possible we will try to calculate and publish.

We wish the year 2018 to give the Khabarovsk people an exciting and vivid experience, which, we hope, no less interesting articles will be written about.
