ITIL update: what's new in 2018
At the Fusion 2017 conference, AXELOS announced the release of the ITIL library update in the coming year. That new appears in ITIL 2018, read under a cat.

An HDI study showed that on average, about 75% of technology companies (from different industries) use ITIL in one form or another - the library is still the best solution for ITSM. Peter Hepworth, CEO of AXELOS, said that over the past 18 months, the company has collaborated with hundreds of experts in the field of service management, who have confirmed the importance of the library for business processes.

However, at AXELOS, they want every company to improve efficiency with ITIL, including small startups. Therefore, the new version of the library will be compatible with other approaches: Agile , DevOps and Lean and use their advantages.
Key elements will not change. The core of the library will remain the traditional cycle of services: strategy, design, transformation, operation and continuous improvement. A million companies in the United States successfully use these cycles to achieve maximum efficiency, so the developers did not make changes to them. The library will continue to be based on the experience of thousands of specialists and experts, due to which many organizations receive real business value from ITIL.

Many of these companies are already practicing DevOps, Agile, and Lean with ITIL, so the new leadership aims to promote a combined approach among other organizations. This approach will allow smaller companies to more easily integrate into the product supply chain with large businesses already practicing ITIL.
In addition, as noted by Akshay Anand from the ITIL development team, in recent years many processes related to the development and supply of IT products have noticeably accelerated, including through more active feedback gathering from users, social networks and media. This changing environment was another reason to review and update some of the principles and approaches of ITIL.
There will be no problems with the certificate. Companies that already have an ITIL certificate will not have to receive it again. AXELOS claims that previously issued certificates will be valid despite the update.
Companies will be able to influence updates. Those who use the library will be able to speak with developers about updates directly. In order to provide feedback, analytics, share experiences and suggestions for improving the library, companies need to register with the Global Research Program community. In addition, AXELOS states that all members of the community will be the first to receive news about ITIL.
The exact dates of transition from ITIL 2011 to ITIL 2018 have not yet been announced , but AXELOS says that companies will have enough time to upgrade to a new version without compromising business processes.
