Internet servers consume 0.8% of the world's electricity

According to calculations by experts from the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, the power consumption of Internet servers and cooling systems in the United States was 45 billion kilowatt-hours in 2005, writes CNet . This means a twofold increase compared with 2000.

Also in 2005, the global power consumption of Internet-related computing systems was 123 billion kilowatt-hours.

At the same time, in the US, servers consume 1.2% of the total amount of energy, while globally, this figure is 0.8%. According to the authors of the study, by 2010 there may be a 40% increase in energy consumption (compared to 2005), but it is not unlikely that it will be more - up to 75%.
