Reducing prices for local SSD drives in “displaced” instances and instances on demand

A week ago, on August 8, we, in our blog , announced a reduction in prices for local SSD-drives. Now our customers pay 63% less for local SSD drives that are used in virtual machines at the request of Google Compute Engine . Price in most regions will be $ 0.80 per 1 GB per month. Local SSDs used with displaced virtual instances will become even cheaper: the price will drop by 71% and in most regions will be $ 0.064 per 1 GB per month.

We are constantly looking for ways to reduce customers' operating expenses and talk about what has been done in this direction thanks to the development of technologies, which allows them to be reduced. We adjust prices so that our customers can use the latest developments and create something new without any extra effort.

Local SSDs are high-performance, physically connected block data drives that continue to work as long as the instance exists. These drives support NVMe and ISCSI interfaces, they have high IOPS (I / O operations per second) and high bandwidth - what is needed for the most demanding programs. Often, local SSDs can be the best solution for temporary disks, when caching layers or scaling databases, such as NoSQL, for example.

A key feature of local SSD drives is that you can assign any number of local SSD drives to a machine of any configuration. You have no limit on the capacity of drives for a certain number and memory of virtual processors in virtual machines. In addition, local SSD drives are available for the same instances for which GPUs are available. This provides additional opportunities for creating systems with high performance.

We have reduced prices not only for local SSD drives for ordinary instances on demand, but also for drives for “displaced” instances. “Preemptable” instances are ordinary Compute Engine virtual machines, but they cannot work for more than 24 hours. In addition, we can oust (turn off) a VM earlier if its resources are needed for other purposes. Thus, the power of our data center is used more efficiently - and you can use it too! You can request a specially allocated amount of local SSD storage to use the "pushed out" instance, despite the fact that you already have a dedicated storage capacity of the local storage (for more information, click here ).

Google Cloud Platform clients are turning to pushed virtual machines to reduce computation costs. In our practice, many interesting use cases. Our customers use preemptive VMs with local SSDs to analyze financial markets, process data, create special effects for films, study the genome, recode media and solve various tasks for business or design using thousands of preemptive virtual machines in one project.

We hope that lower prices for local SSD-drives for virtual machines on demand and pushed out VM will open up new opportunities for you to solve interesting problems in the field of business, design and science.

More information can be found in the articles about local SSD-drives and preemptive virtual machines . Prices for SSDs can be found on the corresponding Compute Engine page . In addition, you can use our price calculator . If you have any questions or want to leave a review, go to the page with background information .

We are glad that you use our products for their development. If you want to share your impressions and show what you have created using the Compute Engine, share it on Twitter , Facebook or G + .
