Music Publishers vs DRM

A new study from Jupiter Research showed that nearly two-thirds (62%) of executives of companies operating in the music industry oppose the use of DRM systems in digital music sales. At the same time, 54% agreed that the current state of affairs with DRM too clearly impairs the rights of consumers.

The study was conducted in December and January, that is, before the acclaimed letter of Steve Jobs.

Despite the fact that the majority of senior executives, especially in large labels, believe that the abolition of the use of protection systems will give impetus to online sales, and even the entire industry, they are not going to do that.

According to the authors of the report, the existing development strategies of recording companies are too much tied to the use of DRM and the rejection of them promises too big changes, frankly frightening market players.
