JetBrains Rider 2017.1 - the first release of the new cross-platform .NET IDE
A few days ago we released the first version of JetBrains Rider - a new cross-platform IDE for .NET development based on IntelliJ-platform and ReSharper. Rider can now not only download but also buy . Rider is included in the All Products Pack subscription, so if you have one, download and use it without paying anything.
What is Rider?
Rider is an IDE for .NET development that can be used on Windows, Mac and Linux. Rider is suitable for many kinds of .NET applications, including ASP.NET, .NET Core, .NET Framework, Xamarin and Unity. Rider combines the ReSharper features in the analysis of .NET code with the functionality of the IntelliJ platform . For example, Rider has access to most of WebStorm’s front-end capabilities and DataGrip for writing SQL and working with databases. We hope you enjoy Rider, especially if you have experience with ReSharper in Visual Studio or using JetBrains IDE: IntelliJ IDEA, PhpStorm, PyCharm, CLion and others. ')
Among the languages supported by Rider are C #, VB.NET, F #, Razor syntax in ASP.NET, JavaScript, TypeScript, XAML, HTML, CSS, SCSS, LESS, JSON and SQL.
Rider functionality is impressive: more than 2000 code inspections, about 500 refactorings and automatic transformations, direct and contextual code navigation, unit testing, debugger, working with version control systems and much more.
What license is needed?
Rider applies the standard licensing model for JetBrains: we offer monthly and annual subscriptions for companies and individual developers. With continuous renewal of subscriptions, you can save up to 40% discount.
Rider can be bought separately, but it is also part of two broader licenses:
All Products pack : if you already have a license for a set of our individual products, use Rider without paying extra;
ReSharper Ultimate + Rider : this is a new kind of subscription, which allows you to get Rider, keep access to our other .NET tools (ReSharper, dotTrace, dotMemory, dotCover, ReSharper C ++) and save, avoiding the transition to All Products pack.
Some categories of Rider clients are provided free of charge: these are Microsoft MVP, ASP.NET Insiders, students, teachers, and non-commercial OS projects.
Finally, Rider, like all other JetBrains products, is subject to a 50% discount for startups.

What will happen next?
The Rider team expects to release at least two more releases before the end of the year: the inevitable bugfix 2017.1.1 in August and the full release 2017.2 in the fall. We intend to work on popular queries, including support for MSTest and .NET Core 2.0, and in parallel we will follow developments in support and tracker in order to understand what else needs to be improved first.
We suggest you download Rider for Windows, macOS or Linux and try it in action. Keep in mind that if you installed Rider 2017.1 RC or one of the subsequent pre-release builds, then you may have to manually reset the trial period.
