Petya Webinar: Flash for another coder

Last week another global attack of the cryptographer took place, which affected more than 60 countries of the world. This attack, called Petya / GoldenEye , encrypted not only data files on thousands of computers around the world, but also the MBR of their hard drives. After being attacked, the victims completely lost access to their system after the next restart of the PC.

It is impossible to talk about this attack without mentioning its predecessor, the now well-known WannaCry attack, which struck hundreds of thousands of computers in various companies, organizations and institutions around the world in May.

Each earthquake has its own tremors, and if we talk about the conclusions that we need to do now, then more and more global cyber attacks are coming, and now is the time to prepare for them.

It is noteworthy that Panda's clients were not affected by the attack GoldenEye / Petya. And not because the attack bypassed Panda’s client computers, but because it could not cope with Adaptive Defense advanced protection technologies. In fact, Panda created the Petya malware profile on the day before other anti-virus companies began detecting them.

Since Cyber criminals are developing new and creative ways to circumvent traditional security solutions; basic anti-virus technologies are no longer able to protect corporate and home users from future attacks. This is because traditional antivirus solutions only detect what they already know as something “bad”, and everything else runs without hindrance. How can you actually prevent unknown threats if everything that your antivirus does not detect is allowed to run?

Below you can watch a recording of our recent webinar, which was conducted by Rui Lopez from the Panda Security branch in the United States. The webinar provided detailed information on how the attack began, made recommendations on how to prepare for future attacks, and also discussed the issues of adaptation and implementation of a truly preventive approach to repelling unknown threats.
