From 23 to 25 June, 589 people from 50 regions of the country will come to Innopolis University to the All-Russian Robotic Olympiad. Competitions are divided into 8 categories, among which two are new - autonomous unmanned aircraft competitions and robotic tetris.
In one of the competitions, participants need to assemble and program an autonomous robot capable of flying in a limited space of the room. The drone must perform tasks for the detection and delivery of goods, accurate passage through control points, around obstacles. The task is performed offline, without the participation of the pilot. Over the same questions the modern industrial companies now work.

Head of the Laboratory of Intelligent Robotic Systems Alexander Klimchik:
“The main difficulty lies in keeping the balance of the aircraft and clearly following a given trajectory. Additional difficulties arise when the aircraft must avoid obstacles in a different horizontal position. Participants in such competitions work on piloting skills of aircraft, get acquainted in practice with the basic laws of physics, and find new design and software solutions for aircraft, which can then be implemented in serious projects. ”
Landfill for aircraft is presented in the form of a cube with four-meter edges, covered with a protective grid. Inside the cube special markings, artificial obstacles and colored loads.
“Aircraft can be of different designs: planes, propellers (helicopters and multikopter), maholets and airships. We have no restrictions on the platform used, so the participants themselves decide what to make the devices. Size - up to 1 meter in each projection, weight - up to 500 grams, speed - up to 10 meters per second. At the robotic Olympiad in our country, such drones competitions will be held for the first time, ”says Alexey Habibullin, head of the Department of Design Olympiads at Innopolis University.
The general theme of this year’s All-Russian Robotic Olympiad is “Sustainable Development”. Participants will present robots to judges who will help return lost, rare animals to their habitat, clean up greenhouse gases from cities and build a wind turbine power plant.
Olympians will compete for medals in the nominations: "Nature-oriented tourism"; "Carbon Neutrality"; "Clean and Renewable Energy"; TetraStack; "Football robots"; "Robots for sustainable development"; “Personal intellectual robotic systems for comfortable life”; "Manipulators: sorting"; "Localization: map"; SLAM (positioning autonomous devices on an unknown map); "Motor Transport", "Water" and "Flying Intelligent Robotic Systems".
In the category "Motor Intelligent Robotic Systems" robots compete with a computer vision system. In real-time mode, robots must analyze the road situation at the site taking into account urban conditions: markings, signs, traffic lights, pedestrian crossings.
“The main difficulty is to react to the road situation in real time. The algorithm must, in a high degree of reliability, recognize road signs and read traffic light signals. In fact, these are the same tasks that manufacturers of modern unmanned vehicles solve. Tetrastack also uses a computer vision system. It assesses the color and configuration of the figures, and, based on this information, the robot fills the form with these figures. Autonomous robots for a limited time must collect several solid lines from a set of cubes of different configurations and colors. This is a robotic tetris game - a new task of increased complexity, ”says Alexey Khabibullin.
Innopolis University has been holding the All-Russian Robotic Olympiad since 2014. Last year, 557 children from 51 regions of the country gathered at the IT university site. The winners of the Olympiad participated in the Federal training camp at the base of the university, where the Russian team was formed for the World Olympiad of Robots. At the international competitions in the Indian capital of New Delhi, our athletes won 4 medals in the “Robot Football”, “Creative” and “Primary” categories. In 2017, the finals of the World Robot Olympiad will be held in Costa Rica.
