News and Releases

• PHP 7.2.0 Alpha 1 - The first alpha version of the new PHP branch is available for testing. A semi-annual testing cycle started, the final release is expected in November.
  By tradition, the release improved performance. Also among the changes :

• HHVM 3.20 - Improved compatibility with PHP 7, and since 3.20.2 declared successful work with Composer. Nevertheless, all large PHP projects have already abandoned support for HHVM due to low popularity.
• PHP Odessa Conf - On June 25, the First PHP Conference will be held in Odessa. Speakers include Jordi Boggiano , James Titcumb , and others.
• DevConf 2017 - June 17, Moscow - The program is formed, in the Backend section several reports are devoted to PHP.

• Short syntax for anonymous functions - Internals actively discusses the possible implementation of short lambda. Previously , the syntax with a tilde was considered and rejected on the ballot: $x ~> $x + 1; and also ^($x) => $x + $y . Currently the following options are being considered:

• Include PCS in the kernel - Offer for PHP 7.3 not yet issued to the official RFC. PCS is a module that allows you to write extensions for PHP in PHP and C at the same time. Read more about PCS . Enabling this feature in the kernel will allow you to rewrite many PHP extensions. This, in turn, will greatly simplify the code, reduce the number of bugs, and increase the number of potential mentheners.
