ACM ICPC World Championship in Sports Programming: The winner is already known

Winners accept a well-deserved reward from the hands of the organizers

Yesterday, at 18 o'clock Moscow time, the final of the most famous world competition for programmers, called ACM ICPC, began . This year more than 46 thousand people from 103 different countries participate in the competition. It is even more than the participants of the Olympics - both winter and summer. Recall that the ICPC has been held every year since 1977.

Initially, the Russian participants were among the main contenders for victory. This is not surprising, since at previous competitions the teams of domestic programmers became absolute champions of the competition 11 times. In this case, 6 times the winners turned out to be programmers from the ITMO University . The university itself is very proud of it, since such a number of victories is a world record.

This year the record is broken, as ITMO programmers became the winners for the seventh time! “The ITMO team most quickly solved 10 and 12 tasks,” the final statement of the press center of the competition reads. The winning team received a gold medal and a prize of $ 12,000.

The second place was taken by representatives of the University of Warsaw. The third was the team of the National University of Seoul. Well, the team of St. Petersburg State University, which won last year, ranked fourth.

Interestingly, before the start of the competition there were attempts to predict the winners of this year. Among others, there were teams from Russia, including SPSU, ITMO University and MIPT, China, including Xinhua University and several others, USA, Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Sweden, Royal Institute of Technology. As it turned out, the predictions came true only in respect of participants from Russia. But China gave very high hopes - this country sent the strongest team, which included participants who previously occupied the first places at the international Olympiad. But this year, this team did not work out - the guys worked well, but there were stronger participants.

Russia was represented by 13 teams, including children from St. Petersburg (3 teams), Moscow (three teams), Novosibirsk, Saratov, Tomsk, Yekaterinburg, Samara, Perm and Petrozavodsk.

Well, we congratulate the winners and hope that next year the participants of the competitions will show even more interesting results. Records in fact in order to exist, to set new ones.

By the way, from 1997 to the present, IBM is the general sponsor of the ACM ICPC.
