How to patch KDE under FreeBSD or what to expect from master classes at DevCon School on June 1

From 2011 to 2016 inclusive, we did a cool DevCon conference in country format for 2 days. And each time, in the comments in the questionnaires, we were asked more stories about the projects of real customers, more practical work!

And we invented and implemented DevCon School: free for participants of the event with deep immersion . Despite its relatively short history, this name has become a brand and a kind of quality mark. We are asked to conduct them again and again. A special place is occupied by large DevCon School, which we conduct twice a year. Unlike ordinary ones, there are several topics in them, and most importantly, it is possible to choose exactly how to get acquainted with these topics: intensive courses or master classes.

')
So, let's see what we are preparing for the 12 master classes available on June 1 at DevCon School: Future Technologies, which will be held in Digital October.

Master Classes

We have tried to prepare for you the most interesting and useful program of master classes. A total of 12 workshops are planned, during the event, if you attend the entire master class, you can post only 3 workshops. Below you will find a list of master classes with time, speakers and a brief description, which I hope will help you make the right choice.

You can register for any master class and finally choose where you will go during the conference. The master class rooms are filled according to the principle: “the first one came, the first one got to the master class” and closed as far as filling.

Slot 11:30 - 13:30 (2 hours)

Azure Service Fabric - a platform for distributed projects in practice , Evgeny Agafonov
Service Fabric is a platform for distributed systems that is already used in a number of production projects inside and outside Microsoft. At the master class, you will work with the platform in conjunction with the speaker, discuss its use for scalable and fault-tolerant projects and the various tasks arising in the development of cloud applications.

Postgres in the Azure Cloud , Ivan Panchenko and Alexey Shishkin
The master class will show you how to use Postgres DBMS in the Azure cloud, will demonstrate the basic operations for setting up the DBMS and working with it. Together with the speaker, you will learn how it works on the example of Postgres Professional's own developments.

Inherited code refactoring: how to break dependencies? , Dmitry Pavlov
What if the code was inherited without tests, but really want to refactor?
Pray and go? Or is there an engineering approach to preparing code for writing tests and safe refactoring?
As part of the master class, you will find live-coding and analysis of the techniques for breaking dependencies.
Sprout method \ class.
Wrap method \ class.
Extract & Override.
Parallel Design.

We program in the world of Minecraft with the Malmo framework from MS Research , Olga Telezhnaya
Minecraft has become disastrously popular among schoolchildren. At the master class we will analyze whether it is good, and then we will see how to program in the familiar world, how to teach children, and also think about how to approach the solution of problems of artificial intelligence. Together we will solve several problems (the language chosen is Python 2.7, if you don’t know it, that's okay, knowledge of any imperative language will be enough). The open source framework Malmo was made for researchers who want to develop AI algorithms. Minecraft license is not required.

Slot 14:30 - 16:30 (2 hours)

Microsoft Visual Studio Team Services and Azure for Java developers , Emin Askerov
Listeners of this master class will familiarize themselves with the broad capabilities of the Microsoft Visual Studio Team Services platform to support the life cycle of developing Java applications, as well as Azure Web App Services cloud services for their deployment and management. Exercises will allow to consolidate the theoretical knowledge in practice.
→ Registration for the conference

Containers in practice , Stas Pavlov
This master class is designed for those who want to learn the basic practices of working with containers and using them in Azure. We will review and work with Docker containers, Windows Containers, try it yourself, how it works locally and in the Azure cloud. After that, we will look at the work with the Docker Swarm and Kubernetes orchestrators, deploy our application in the orchestrator and scale it.

Building a secure development process , Alexey Zhukov and Rami Muleis
Software security becomes the most important component of its quality. The traditional development process does not always allow you to create protected applications from scratch, and the elimination of vulnerabilities in the finished software requires serious time and material costs. Embedding the Secure Software Development Lifecycle into the overall software development cycle comes to the rescue. At the master class, you will learn in practice how to securely develop software projects from a developer’s point of view.

Machine learning in the cloud Microsoft Azure , Dmitry Petukhov
Modern cloud platforms allow us - developers and data scientists - to receive on demand 32xCPU VM, server with NVidia Tesla high-performance GPU or deploy Hadoop cluster. In the first part of the master class, we will look at the use of Azure cloud services related to machine learning, and the stack-standard for data scientist Open Source frameworks. The variety of software frameworks and PaaS services supported in Azure that are available for solving machine learning tasks will also surprise both the data analyst and the developer who has just begun to explore this area.

Slot 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm (2 hours)

Containerization and DevOps of applications on the example of Docker and Visual Studio Team Services , Ilya Zverev
As part of the master class, we will deal with how to create containers, containerize applications (using a Java application as an example) and use Visual Studio Team Services for Continuous Integration and Deployment of the created project.
→ Registration for the conference

Collection of system telemetry in real time , Igor Shcheglovitov and Anton Mednonogov
A master class will prepare a system for collecting and monitoring service performance metrics based on Open Source ingredients and the Azure cloud. Starting from the basics of how this should work, we will move on to creating a PaaS infrastructure for collecting logs (Event Hub, Stream Analytics) and finish with the visualization of telemetry in Power BI and testing the system for load.

Linear and logistic regression from Excel via Python to Azure ML , Mikhail Komarov
In this presentation, we will cover an introduction to linear and logistic regression, areas of applicability, and implementation in Python, Azure ML. The purpose of this master class is to acquaint students with the basics of linear and logistic regression with simple examples.

Linear regression (50 minutes):
1. Linear regression, some math, parameters.
2. An example of a simple Python implementation without libraries.
3. Implementation in the library scikit-learn, basic parameters, assessing the quality of the model.
4. Implementation in Azure ML, parameters, model quality estimates.

Logistic regression (50 minutes):
1. Logistic regression, some math, parameters.
2. An example of a simple Python implementation without libraries.
3. Implementation in the library scikit-learn, basic parameters, assessing the quality of the model.
4. Implementation in Azure ML, parameters, model quality estimates.

Data Visualization with Power BI , Stanislav Vyschepan
The ability to clearly and quickly visualize data of different types and purpose is one of the key in the field of data analysis. The basics of visualization, as well as the different versions of Microsoft Power BI tools that can greatly simplify your work, will be discussed and shown in this master class.
