Besides science: what else are our students interested in?
ITMO students regularly participate in various kinds of olympiads, world championships and occupy first places in prestigious competitions. But studying, preparing for olympiads and achievements in science is not all that the University lives by. Today we will talk about what ITMO students and teachers do in their free time from science: balalaika covers, sporting successes and the creation of one of the best parody music videos of this spring are just a few of their “extracurricular” achievements.
Oh sport
It has been proven that playing sports has a positive effect on concentration and improves mood. And in the case of the ITMO University, it is not only about sports programming: in 2013, the Kronverks' leopards student sports club was opened on the basis of the university. Now the club has 22 sports sections: from swimming and football to table tennis and cheerleading. ')
By the way, the acknowledged winners of the IT Olympiad respect the “classic” sport. For example, Gennady Korotkevich, a graduate of ITMO University, and a multiple winner of prestigious world competitions in sports programming, is seriously interested in tennis, and in between classes likes to play football.
“Kronverksky leopards” train not only in their native St. Petersburg, but also travel in Russia and abroad. The guys from the ski section in the winter holidays collected equipment and went to conquer the slopes of Krasnaya Polyana. And one of “Barsov” - Ditenbier Arthur spent the holidays in Bishkek, where he coached the women's national volleyball team of the local school №70. He wanted to show what the Kronverk leopards team had taught him: cohesion, perseverance, optimism, and a spirit of victory.
Musical pause
Music is another popular hobby of university students and teachers: many of them play musical instruments and write songs. “My hobby for over ten years has been playing guitar, composing music and free improvisation,” says Maxim Buzdalov, an associate professor at the computer technology department. And, Pavel Mavrin, a teacher at ITMO University, writes music himself and makes balalaika covers of famous compositions, and then puts them into the network .
The university tries its best to support such hobbies, therefore, on the basis of the university, the vocal community , the Live Sound music club and even a rock club are open, where any student can gather his group and “improve” the skill of playing musical instruments.
Healthy sleep and other recreation
Sleep is another kind of “activity” that our students value so much. The CT department even created the VKontakte community , where students chase out photos of fellow students sleeping on couples. In any case, it is useful, because the hour and a half day sleep stimulates the activity of long-term memory.
Board games are also an excellent discharge for brains who are tired of programming and studying. And for those who are not very tired - the creation of electronic versions of their favorite board games (for example, such as Codenames , in which deduction, associations and teamwork triumph in). In the university student club Game Crunch everyone can find both "fellow game" and development colleagues.
Ice sir! - Melting ice, sir!
That is how Andy Larkin, the hero of the cartoon “What's with Andy,” answered the questions from the police about the contents of the bags he carried.
This spring is under the same motto. The song of the group “Mushrooms” - “Ice melts” takes the first places in the charts and sounds on many radio stations. A lot of parodies were shot on the video clip. The students of ITMO University were no exception and shot their version of the clip, which, according to the publication “Afisha.Daily”, is one of the best.
In general, students can reveal their creative and acting potential thanks to the KVN Open League of Humor and the Theater of Miniatures. The League develops creative abilities and strengthens the relationship between the creative teams of faculties. The theater of miniatures is also engaged in staging performances for students and staff of the ITMO University. By the way, altogether, 17 different studios and clubs are open at ITMO University, from the club of literature lovers to the unification of go-gamblers.
