Google will pay a fine of 3 million euro to Belgian publishers
Google lost the lawsuit launched by 18 Belgian newspapers last fall. The plaintiffs claimed that Google violated their copyright by opening access to archival materials through the Google News news service, which are distributed only by subscription and for a fee.
The Brussels court ruled in favor of the newspapers, ordering the defendant to remove all texts involved in the dispute from its resources. The amount of the penalty imposed was 3 million euros. Note, the plaintiffs claimed much greater compensation - 130 million euros.
The conclusion of the court was made after the second consideration of the dispute. Google has already demanded its revision, citing the fact that the proceedings took place without the participation of the company.
