FBI lost 160 laptops in 4 years
Over the past 4 years, FBI officials have lost at least 160 laptops. Such data are published in the report of the US Department of Justice ( pdf ).
All of these computers have been lost or stolen. At least 10 of them contained top-secret information, and one contained information about the personal data of the FBI employees. It is also known that only one of the lost laptops used encryption to protect data.
Compared with 2002 (a similar report was published at that time), the FBI worked on the safety of its equipment: the previous report reported 317 lost laptops in 28 months, 17 of which were stolen.
