Academic University has existed since 2008. During this time, we managed to open a graduate school, magistracy and undergraduate (yes, in that order); become a National Research University; win a megagrant on bioinformatics and much more. In this post, we will talk about how to act and what has happened with us during the year.
Undergraduate
In 2016, it was decided to increase the enrollment to 80 people, thanks to this, we were able to receive a greater number of applicants on the Unified State Exam (last year almost all the seats were occupied by the winners and prize-winners of the All-Russian Olympiads). As a result, the average score received has fallen slightly, but we are still in the top three for the third year in a row on the results of recruitment. ')
This year we recruit 60 people - 36 programmers and 24 physicists.
Students from the first set have already grown to the third year and were divided into 7 areas of training:
At the same time, it is worth noting that we are trying to introduce an unusual system of education (similar to the western one), in which students do not have compulsory subjects in the schedule. A set of subjects, as well as which semester to listen to, students choose individually, together with the curators.
A year ago we recorded a short video about our undergraduate degree. It seems that during this time he has not lost relevance.
Those who finish this year a bachelor’s degree or specialty are invited to study with us for a master’s degree. Our department has three directions. 1. Theoretical computer science (computer science)
The curriculum includes basic and advanced courses on algorithms, computational complexity, cryptography, discrete mathematics, mathematical logic, machine learning, and numerous more specialized subjects reflecting modern trends in computer science. Students conduct research under the guidance of specialists in theoretical computer science. Graduates of this direction are trained in Russian and foreign graduate schools, published at leading international conferences.
In the process of learning, students participate in the development of software products under the guidance of experienced consultants working in the industry. As part of the direction, you can specialize in various areas: functional programming, big data and machine learning, system programming and robotics, etc. The main focus is on individual practical work with students, student projects are conducted in cooperation with leading Russian IT companies.
During training, students take part in solving real bioinformatics problems: developing algorithms and software systems for assembling genomes, solving problems in the field of computational proteomics and mass spectrometry. Graduates are in-demand specialists in this field, published at international conferences, continue their education in postgraduate courses at leading universities in the world, or work in high-tech bioinformatics projects.
If you don’t graduate from school or undergraduate this year, then you may be interested in online courses on the basics of industrial programming and data analysis , which are conducted jointly with the Computer Science Center and Stepik . Students who have successfully passed all online courses and have passed certification will receive a diploma of professional retraining from our university.
