3CX Client for Android and iOS updates, and the 3CX SBC release for Debian Linux

Client Update 3CX Client for Android

This week we are introducing the next 3CX Client for Android client update. About a month ago, a new version of the 3CX Client for Android client was released with the ability to answer a call from the device lock screen. This update improves the speed of answering a call, and also includes other minor fixes:

3CX SBC for Debian Linux

As you know, 3CX is a multi-platform system running on Windows, Linux Debian 8 and cloud infrastructure. It is logical to expect the same multiplatform from its important addition - 3CX SBC (border controller sessions). And the latest version of 3CX SBC now supports Linux Debian 8! Linux support for 3CX SBC was requested by many of our clients and partners, and we fulfilled their wishes.

In addition to support for Linux, the new version significantly improves the quality of transmitted sound (on Windows, Linux and Raspberry Pi), and also implements multi-stream processing of traffic on the Raspberry Pi. Multi-threaded processing allows you to handle more simultaneous calls and support more BLF indicators on phones. Testing confirms steady operation of 20 IP phones with configured 10 BLF indicators on each (phones are connected to the 3CX head server via the Raspberry Pi device). Of course, testing involves high-quality Internet channels, both from the 3CX server and in the remote office.

Using 3CX SBC

3CX SBC is used to connect remote users to the 3CX PBX server in the head office. It is important to note that you do not need to purchase any additional licenses to install SBC. It is enough to install one “big” PBX 3CX in the central office, and the rest of the offices for free combine with it into a single communication system. This is much cheaper than buying a 3CX license for each branch.

However, why not connect IP phones directly to PBX via the Internet, without using SBC? The fact is that with such a connection, VoIP traffic will pass through many firewalls and routers, which can not only affect the sound quality (create delays), but also make the connection setup itself impossible, since change the headers of SIP packets. The 3CX SBC encapsulates VoIP traffic into a virtual tunnel, allowing it to transparently pass through almost any network device.

Why we released SBC for Debian Linux

Until the last update, you could install 3CX SBC either on a Windows computer or on a Raspberry Pi device. Both of these solutions have some drawbacks:

3CX SBC for Debian Linux elegantly solves both of these problems. It allows you to run a full-fledged OS with minimal system requirements - right in a virtual machine on an existing server or desktop PC! Instead of a virtual machine, you can use this full (and this is important!) Linux computer .
