Begin End: IPv4 addresses really end

Surely you have already heard that IPv4 addresses are coming to an end. This was reported by many media, and we also wrote about this issue in one of our previous materials . But still, no one could say for sure when this would happen - the forecasts were constantly changing.

But last week, the regional Internet Registrar Internet Addresses Registry for America and the Caribbean (LACNIC) announced the launch of the third phase of the distribution of the remaining network addresses (more here ). Now only those companies that have never received them before can receive a block of IPv4 addresses.

All of this means that LACNIC has 4,698,112 public IPv4 addresses, although this number may increase slightly, since the space is periodically released. In this case, the Internet registrar will issue a maximum of 1024 addresses at a time.

Representatives of the organization for the first time reported that the address space is ending, back in 2014. And now LACNIC is one of the last recorders left afloat. The APNIC addresses ended in 2011, the RIPE addresses ended in 2012, and ARIN had “stocks” in September 2015.

Public addresses are still in Africa, but even AFRINIC warns that the resource is running out. The registrar’s initial forecast that the addresses will end in 2020 has recently been adjusted - now 2019 is the final date. You can view reports on the number of available IPv4 addresses using the tools on the link .

In the light of these events, LACNIC representatives are pushing the community to switch to IPv6 so that providers and other organizations can continue to successfully serve their customers: both old and new, who will connect in the future.
