The company Atlassian , a developer of software products Jira, Bitbucket, Confluence and others, buys a Trello project management application for $ 425 million, reports TechCrunch .

Trello is a startup founded in 2011 as a free web-based project management application for small teams. Since 2013, it has been providing paid services for the freemium model, and since 2014, after leaving Fog Creek Software, it has become an independent company. The product is available both on the web and with applications for Android or iOS.

Most of the amount ($ 360 million) Atlassian will pay in cash, the balance - in the form of limited shares and options. At the same time, the company does not plan to radically change Trello: the service itself and the brand will continue to exist.

The audience of Trello is about 19 million users, provided that only about a hundred people are involved in the work on the project. All of them will go to Atlassian and continue working on their product.

The main purpose of the purchase is the desire of Atlassian to develop new markets. The company's plans to reach an audience of 100 million users, and Trello, according to management, will help with this. In fact, Atlassian goes beyond its classic IT market: about half of Trello users work in other non-IT fields.

Some concerns are the next steps of the new owner for the development of the project. “It’s good that Trello already has a lot of competitors, and then everything that Atlasian undertakes is becoming a djiru,” Gregory bobuk Bakunov spoke on his deal in a telegram about the deal. So, Atlassian plans include integrating Trello services into existing projects.
