All conferences of the JUG.ru Group: a summary of 2016 and plans for 2017

2016 became a year of rapid growth for the JUG.ru Group : we held several conferences at once for the first time, and the already well-known became bigger. Moreover, in 2017, the conquest of new frontiers is already planned. Before the New Year, we decided to remember all the conferences that we had in the outgoing year, and talk about which ones we will hold in the coming one - so under the cut you can learn about everyone at once and find the one that suits you best.

JBreak (Novosibirsk)

')
We have been holding Java conferences in St. Petersburg and Moscow for a long time. But Russia is not limited to two cities, and in 2016, for the first time, we expanded our geography to Novosibirsk. Since JUG.ru is based in St. Petersburg, this could seem an adventure: you can simply organize Joker at home, guaranteed to attract many developers, and not to fly thousands of kilometers to arrange a new conference, about which it is not known in advance how many viewers will gather.

But in the end, JBreak caused such an interest that on April 4, 2017, it would not just take place again, but would also move to the larger Expocentre. Tickets are already on sale , and from January 1, they will go up in price - in general, it is clear that for the Novosibirsk Java developer it can be an excellent New Year's gift.

JPoint (Moscow)

For Moscow's JPoint , unlike JBreak, there was no need to worry: already existing experience said that it would turn out to be big. But did not say that so big! The conference has grown from one day to two (and even turned out to be complemented by a party). So, a lot of interesting things fit into the program: from two reports by Alexey Shipilev to the speech of Maxim Dorofeyev , who, with her “non-technical” essence, managed to get into the list of the best .

In 2017, the JPoint will also be two days (April 7-8). And although his program is not yet fully known, it is already clear from the stated reports that there will also be bright and diverse speakers, from Arun Gupta to Anton Keks .

DotNext Piter

The St. Petersburg version of DotNext took place at a time when passions were raging around the .NET Core release and soaking up jokes - not surprisingly, Dino Esposito 's expressive talk about it was among the best reports in the opinion of the audience. But the most highly appreciated was the report by Sasha Goldstein “The C ++ and CLR Memory Models”, so the interest in hardcore basic things still outweighed the current news. And although this year the St. Petersburg DotNext was one-day, it became clear that it is ready for more: in 2017 it is scheduled for May 19-20.

Mobius

With what help to display pictures on Android, if the task is much more cunning than “just take and show”? Which Google announcements for I / O 2016 are especially important for developers? It is time to switch to Swift, what then is it worth knowing about the generics in it? At Mobius, these and many other questions have found their answers. And now, like DotNext, it has become ready for a two-day duration: the next Mobius will be held April 21-22.

HolyJS Piter

In contrast to the long-known DotNext and Mobius, this conference was held for the first time, so the question “would it be in demand” also arose. But the answer turned out to be more than affirmative: the audience eagerly gathered and listened with great interest to Denis Mishunov (about performance from the point of view of the user's psychology), and Vyacheslav Egorov (about performance from the point of view of “intestines”). As a result, having established itself in St. Petersburg, the conference managed to go through to Moscow before the end of the year - and in June 2017 it will come to St. Petersburg again, but for two days, and not one.

Joker (St. Petersburg)

Unlike the JPoint, the St. Petersburg Java conference did not increase the number of days: it became a two-day one as early as 2014. But in 2016, it grew in another way, dramatically increasing the area, so there was a place for six parallel tracks, and for the podcast “Debriefing” podcast, for the exhibition of retro computers, and for many other things.

The next Joker is scheduled for October 7-8, 2017, and before that there is still too much time for specific details. But by the way the previous one went, one thing is clear: it won't be boring. Here, for example, looked like Sam Aaron 's musical live coding after the first day of the conference:

DotNext Helsinki

The Finnish version of DotNext, held on December 7, was the first conference in the history of the JUG.ru Group outside of Russia. Since she had the role of a "trial ball", they limited themselves to one track, but the speakers were as stellar as those of the Moscow and St. Petersburg versions of DotNext : a whole galaxy of Microsoft MVP gathered, including public favorites like Dino Esposito and Andrey Akinshin . And Mikhail Samarin , speaking about HoloLens, demonstrated his capabilities in a very vivid way - putting on himself and showing the audience on the screen, “what is really happening in this audience”:

As a result, we got a lot of experience, having learned how exactly the organization of such an event differs from the usual Russian conditions - and now in 2017 we can repeat the conference taking this experience into account.

DotNext Moscow

On the Moscow version of DotNext, passions did not simmer like in Petersburg: the situation with .NET Core had managed to settle for a bit in six months. But there was no less hardcore technology: for example, Sasha Goldstein again made two performance reports at once (with new topics) - and again both of them were in the top 3 according to audience estimates. As a result, Moscow DotNext, like St. Petersburg, is in 2017 with plans to grow to a two-day event.

Heisenbag

Testing conference was another premiere of 2016, expanding the boundaries of the JUG.ru Group: now we have an event that is interesting not only for developers (but for them too!). It turned out that both testers and developers are really interested, so it makes sense not only to repeat the conference a year later, but also to bring it to St. Petersburg. So, on June 4, 2017, the first St. Petersburg Heisenbag is scheduled, and on December 8-9, the second Moscow.

HolyJS Moscow

After a successful debut in St. Petersburg, the conference came to Moscow - and at the same time radically expanded the geography of the composition of the speakers. If at the St. Petersburg event almost all the reports were from Russian speakers, the Moscow team gathered experts from various countries. Judging by the fact that 4 out of the top 5 reports were immediately English-speaking, the direction for development was chosen correctly. And due to the fact that in 2017 the conference will become two days, there will be a lot of room in the program for both Russian and foreign speakers.

Mitapy

In addition to large conferences, we also deal with JUG.ru and CodeFreeze mitaps. In the outgoing year, the following have passed:

Mitapas JUG.ru

Mitapas CodeFreeze

Future: what else to expect

From the above it is already clear that in the calendar for 2017 we have circled many dates. But that's not all! We want to hold two completely new conferences in Petersburg in the autumn: one on DevOps, and the other on Big Data. So far, they do not even have final names, but when we are ready to make a detailed announcement, it will immediately appear on Habré.

In the meantime, you can follow the calendar on jugru.org - the most current dates of our conferences there. See you in 2017!
