The results of GeekWeek 2016 and the return of the terrible BAG: Winter with GeekBrains
On November 14-19, the educational portal GeekBrains, together with the Mail.Ru Group, held an online conference GeekWeek 2016 for beginners and experienced IT specialists. For those who do not know, IT is one of the most dynamically developing areas in the economies of most countries of the world. Continuous development requires a lot of resources. And the main resource is man.
It is for this reason that GeekWeek 2016 online conference is held every year. The main goal is not only to get interested in the field of information technology, but also to provide the practical skills necessary for a successful start to a career. For 6 days, speakers from large companies in Russia and the world held 61 free workshops. More than 65,000 conference participants tried themselves in various areas of programming, web design and internet marketing, mastered their skills and learned firsthand about current trends and professions. The most active participants got the opportunity to master the chosen profession for free. ')
The final day of the conference was held in the Moscow office of the Mail.Ru Group, where almost a thousand invited “Gikvikovtsevs” listened to the speakers, talked and had fun in the format of “Education & Entertainment”. Materials from the conference are available on our portal.
For this conference, the educational portal GeekBrains has prepared a joint gift with an online school of English - EnglishDom. Students of paid programs received the course “English for IT-specialists” and a year of free access to the EnglishDom service. The conference passed, but the gift remained. GeekBrains users with the purchase of complex programs-professions get the opportunity to learn English as a gift. GeekBrains constantly shares interesting content and various interactives. In 2016, we conducted 708 training streams, recorded 241 webinars and published 472 articles.
On Programmer's Day, September 9, the GeekBrains team asked all users to help in the fight against a fictional virtual enemy. To defeat him, it was necessary to “fix a bug” on the site. Tens of thousands of students went through a small quest: they “neutralized the bug” and received valuable prizes and discounts. The truth is that the “Dark Algorithm” (you know what it is ?!) does not sleep. While everyone was celebrating a victory, he stole the “bug” source code. For two months, he used a dangerous code and unsafe variables to turn a bug into something terrible.
The new bug attack was December 13th! GeekBrains website attacked CyberBug! His main goal is to spoil the New Year for all GeekBrains participants, all gifts are now in his little cunning paws. Well, brave habravchane, let's help return the New Year in GeekBrains! Rumor has it that those who managed to destroy CyberBag receive a whole bunch of gifts and a 45% discount on any IT profession.
