The enemy is inside: we invite hackers and speakers on PHDays VII

On May 23 and 24, 2017, in the Moscow International Trade Center, an international forum on practical security Positive Hack Days will be held.

The theme of the seventh conference is Opposition: The Enemy Within. While the futurists were scaring us with Big Brother and the fighting Terminators, our opponents were suddenly many digital devices: cars and children’s toys, payment terminals and smart home sensors, and even surveillance cameras that promised to improve our security. Now this is a hacker weapon. How to deal with the enemy when the front line is blurred and even the coffee maker can attack us?

Last year, we offered PHDays participants a new format of hacker contests - Opposition, which resulted in the breaking of hydroelectric power stations and flooding the city . We decided to continue the planned course and come even closer to the harsh reality. The battle goes to a city where the Internet of Things is booming. Now the urban infrastructure and “smart” gadgets of various sizes and purposes can become targets for pentesters, and not only team members, but also ordinary PHDays VII visitors will be victims of social engineering. The number of objects for capture / protection will increase, day / night scenarios and social engineering will appear, and there will be no flags.

This year the main roles will remain the same - hackers, defenders and SOC. However, the list of participants in the Confrontation may be expanded by professional pentesters. The rest of the competitive program will also be based on the infrastructure of the city: participants will be able to try themselves in breaking into the automated process control system, telecom operator, bank, Internet of things and network equipment.

The game battle will not prevent conference participants from visiting many interesting reports, master classes, as well as discussing the most pressing issues of information security with leading experts in the industry. This year we are planning to pay great attention to innovations in the field of hacks and practical security methods. We are interested in: defense and attack, hacking of “smart” devices and attacks in social networks, overcoming physical methods of protection and psychological aspects of social engineering.
