Firebug development tool closes: “Use Firefox DevTools”

The developers of the Firebug project team have announced a halt to work on their tool. This is reported on the project’s main page: “The Firebug extension is no longer being developed or supported. We suggest you use Firefox DevTools . ”

There are no preliminary announcements or blog posts to users, which caused some confusion in the network and led to heated discussions on what happened on HackerNews and Reddit .

About combining Firebug with Firefox DevTools, the developers announced in February 2016 in the corresponding blog entry on the project website . Then they announced the integration of Firebug with the built-in Firefox toolkit and demonstrated some of the features.

At the same time, in the discussion on Reddit, some users point out that although Firebug was a convenient tool at one time, now Firefox, Chrome and even Edge tools can do the same and work faster. “I believe that every modern browser is now equipped with acceptable dev tools,” writes one of the users. Others speak of closing a project as an “end of an era.”

The same developers that used Firebug all the time, now have to look for an alternative. It is quite possible that you should follow the advice of the creators of the tool and try Firefox DevTools, because the Firebug team started merging with this tool almost a year ago and, judging by the reviews, quite successfully.
