The share of Apple products in the corporate sector turned out to be much larger than expected. According to new research, Mac and Mac OS X are now much more common in offices.
As a result of a survey by the Yankee Group, which was conducted among 750 administrators and C-level managers around the world, it turned out that almost 80% of enterprises have installed a certain number of Mac OS X computers.
“Although the total number of Apple Mac systems with Mac OS X is still small, the number of Macs that have mastered and recognized has been growing steadily, something that hasn’t been seen since the 80s,” said company representatives.

Among those who responded to the survey, almost a quarter reported that a significant number of Macs — more than 30 machines — were installed on their company’s network.
The Yankee Group also made several assumptions about what is fueling Mac interest in a corporate environment. These included such factors as the elegant Safari browser, iChat, and the improved version of FileVault security, which allows you to encrypt data on a disk, while protecting documents in the event of theft.
Also noted was the Time Machine backup system, which is distributed as part of Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard, and some service tools, such as virtualization tools and Back to My Mac, which allow you to remotely access files on your home computer via MobileMe.
Although it was not part of the study of the Yankee Group, success in the smartphone market helped in many ways to invade Apple’s corporate market, as analyst Piper Jeffrey had previously said.
Since smartphones usually form the core of many corporate structures, analyst Gene Munster suggests that the proliferation of the iPhone as a business smartphone has inclined the company to the corporate market in general.
“As long as Apple allows consumers to influence product development decisions, the company also realizes that every such consumer at work is most likely a PC user. Therefore, we expect the company to focus on increasing its market share in corporate systems, ”says Munster.
