The $ 140 million paid by Google for the Russian contextual advertising service Runner now seems to be quite a small number, given the company's fantastic financial results (
news on the Runner site ) for the first half of 2008.
As reported on the website, the Runner’s profit for the first half of 2008 is 25% higher than the profit for the whole of 2007. Add to this 173,000 sites (increased by 30,000 from last year) in Begun’s partners, and it becomes obvious that this company is on the way to full conquest of the huge Russian contextual advertising market.
In other words, the Runner was ready to purchase. The company needed funds to support rapid growth, because it showed its huge potential. It's amazing why Microsoft, AOL, and others miss the odds, like this one, but Google always seems to catch the right moment?
