Microsoft met with AOL representatives on Wednesday to discuss the possibility of merging the online businesses of the two companies.
According to the Wall Street Journal, Microsoft, whose recent attempts to buy Yahoo, or part of it, have been rejected, is looking for ways to cooperate with AOL. Two companies have been discussing a possible deal for several months as an alternative to buying Microsoft from Yahoo.
Representatives from Microsoft and AOL did not comment on this information.
According to the magazine, the details of the contract have not yet been worked out.
Microsoft made several attempts to buy Yahoo this year. On Saturday, Yahoo refused a joint offer from Microsoft and Carl Icahn to sell Yahoo's search business.
