In connection with the transfer of the data center in Chicago, the SF.net team will make changes to the services provided. Web services will be migrated in stages, starting with projects with a large volume of traffic, and then moving on to other projects. Project administrators will receive notification from SourceForge.net staff about migration prior to the event. Major platform versions and changes include:
Change distribution from Fedora Core 2 to CentOS 5.
The architecture changes from x86 (32 bits) to x86_64 (64-bit).
Apache web server 2.0.51 up to 2.2.3
PHP 4.3.10 to 5.2.6
Perl 5.8.3 to 5.8.8
Python from 2.3.3 to 2.4.3
Ruby 1.8.1 to 1.8.5
Tcl 8.4.5 to 8.4.13
MySQL from 4.1.20 to 5.0.51a (more details will be reported separately)
Other changes:
Project data is now stored using a scalable architecture, which will increase quotas without downtime.
Increased the number of servers serving the project from 9 to 12.
Improved web server specifications. The old configurations varied around dual processor platforms with 4 gigabytes of memory, while the new ones will be eight-processor systems with 8 gigabytes of memory.
Improved scalability means that the system can be easily supplemented with new servers for better performance.
There will also be some changes in the structure of user directories.
