Psychology of web productivity, or when time is equal to money

Note: Below is the translation of the article “The Psychology of Web Performance” , in which the author raises the psychological aspects of the performance of web pages: what determines it, how to measure it - and describes some of the associated (commercial) effects. My comments further in italics.

Previous research has shown that user irritation increases dramatically if the page loading speed exceeds 8–10 seconds without any notice to the user about the loading process (Bouch, Kuchinsky and Bhatti, 2000, King, 2003). Recent work in this area has shown that users with broadband access are even less tolerant of delays when loading web pages compared to users with a narrower channel. In a survey conducted by JupiterResearch, it was found that 33% of the user of the high-speed connection do not want to wait more than 4 seconds when the page loads, while 43% of users do not wait more than 6 seconds (Akamai, 2006).
