Average web page size has tripled since 2003

Note: below is a translation of the article “Average Web Page Size Triples Since 2003” , in which the author discusses the trends that have occurred over the past 5 years regarding the size of a web page and the number of objects on it. It is very interesting to compare the data with the increase in Internet bandwidth, in my opinion, the latter has increased about the same. From this we can conclude that client optimization has never lost its relevance over the past 10-15 years. My comments further in italics.

The size of the average web page has more than tripled since 2003. From 2003 to 2008, it increased in size from 93.7Kb to over 312Kb (see Figure 1), by almost 233% (Domenech et al. 2007, Flinn & Betcher 2008). Over the same five-year period, the number of objects on such a page has approximately doubled: from 25.7 to 49.9 objects per page. If we take the statistics for a longer period, it turns out that since 1995 the size of the average web page has increased by 22 times, and the number of objects per page by 21.7 times.
