Zvooq filed a lawsuit for $ 29 million to the “largest Russian public corporation” - “Yandex”

The music service Zvooq, through a number of media outlets, announced a press conference today, Wednesday 16 November, at which company representatives will talk about a lawsuit demanding $ 29 million to an unnamed Russian company. The interlocutors of many publications agree that we are talking about Yandex.

A company spokeswoman, Asya Melkumova, confirmed that Yandex had received notification of the trial and expressed surprise at the lawsuit. An application to the court of Limassol (Cyprus) against Yandex LLC was filed by Zvooq in August of this year.

Vedomosti, using its own sources familiar with the details of the lawsuit, learned that it was a violation of written agreements - the NDA or the confidentiality / non-disclosure agreement by Yandex.

Also, correspondents note that some time ago, the former technical director of Zvooq, Konstantin Ryabinin, moved to Yandex. In addition to him, the former head of marketing Zvooq Varvara Semenikhina is now the head of the marketing department in Yandex.Music. Asya Melkumova, on the part of Yandex, declares no violations, but refuses to comment on the relationship with the claimant company in detail.

In turn, Ms. Semenikhina has already commented on the situation:

You can quote - there was no hunting, we agreed on my departure from Zvooq long before I submitted my resume to Yandex.

Another interesting fact here is that one of the shareholders and co-owner of Dream Industries, which includes Zvooq, is Dmitry Kostygin - one of the founders of Russia's largest online retailer Ulmart. The retailer is currently experiencing a serious shareholder conflict - co-owners can not agree on business management.

The last round of investment in Zvooq, with a volume of $ 5 million and closed in July 2016, most likely is the cause of the conflict - it is known that during negotiations with potential investors, including “Yandex”, in order to “safely” provide information about the business, Zvooq signed with the interlocutors a number of documents, including the NDA with the clause on the impossibility of hiring employees for six months.

The Kommersant publication found that part of the company's claims are formulated as “a drop in the company's performance as a result of the departure of one of the employees.” The publication also learned that the NDA between Yandex and Zvooq was signed on February 5, 2016.

The comment of the general director of Zvooq Mikhail Ilyichev:
She worked at Zvooq for about two years and was aware of all new, not yet implemented ideas, methodologies for promoting the service in various channels, she knew about all the agreements with partners and customers, including telecom operators.

Ilyichev also explained that the amount of damage reflects the decrease in startup capitalization due to the actions of Yandex.

Official comment of Yandex:
All recent Zvooq statements are based on populist rhetoric and are not true. We will reasonably answer all legal requirements in court, because we are confident in our position.
