Apturl in Ubuntu: software installation by one click on the link

Imagine that you are once again reading a review of programs for Ubuntu. One of the programs attracted your attention, and there was a desire to install and try it. And instead of opening the package manager or terminal, you simply click on the link. A window appears asking if you want to install this program, and after - asking for a password. Installation took less time than you would have spent only on finding a program in the list of package managers! Now, with Apturl, this is all possible.

First you need to install Apturl. To do this, simply type in the terminal:

sudo apt-get install apturl

After Apturl is installed, you need to restart the browser. Now, to check the work of Apturl, you need a link to install, right? As an example, here is the link to installing the “Gnome-Main-Menu” program: install the Gnome-Main-Menu .

Hope works! And before everyone talks about the “insecurity” of Apturl, I will say this. Apturl just tells apt-get which program to install. So the “malicious blogger” will not be able to install the “malicious” program, because it is not in the apt-get repository of your system. Apturl works only with programs from your repositories. If apt-get cannot install the program, then Apturl will not be able to! Also, you can not execute arbitrary commands with the help of Apturl, so do not worry that someone will format your disk.

And what if you want to use this system on your website? It is very simple. For example, for the above link to installing Gnome-Main-Menu, I simply created a hyperlink pointing to

apt:gnome-main-menu
