J & P: Digital content in Russia in 2006-2010.

The volume of the legal digital content market in Russia was $ 1.7 billion in 2006, according to researchers at J'son & Partners . By 2010, this market can grow more than 3.5 times to $ 5 billion.

This positive trend will determine a number of factors. First, it is expected that by 2008-2010. “broadband” penetration will reach a critical point, and fast Internet will become a mass phenomenon across the country. This will entail an increase in online distribution of “heavy” content (movies, music, games), which by 2010 will form about 30% of the total market. The digital television segment, also an interactive sales channel, will increase by 60% in the number of subscribers by this time.

Second, retail chains selling legal products will grow. This segment of J & P promises 50% of the total market by 2010. Finally, the demand for consumer electronics and digital devices will increase - competition in the market will grow, and it will become more fragmented (there will be a mass of niche offers). All this will occur simultaneously with the development of infrastructure services - search and directories, social networks, payment systems.

The level of piracy in the digital content segment promises to decline. But even in 2007, judging by the researchers' schedule, the volumes of counterfeit sales will significantly exceed legal ones, approximately two times. The anti-piracy policy, which Russia has embarked on in acceding to the WTO, is indicated as a factor contributing to the improvement of the market.

The objectives of the players J & P considers the expansion of the coverage of broadband networks and the concomitant reduction in the price of access. However, there should be a parallel development of convergent media, as well as the growth of the product range of content producers.

In 2007, according to forecasts, the digital content market will amount to $ 2.1 billion.
