Create high-performance HTML pages for IE

Note: Below is a translation of an article from MSDN "Building High Performance HTML Pages" , which contains a number of tips from Microsoft experts on optimizing page load time. It is very interesting to compare their approach with that of Yahoo! . In my opinion, most of the advice is no longer as relevant (thanks to Zeroglif , all the above tips are most likely a decade ago), but at one time they were all very effective. My comments further in italics.

The Internet, intranets ( internal corporate portals) and extranets ( everything that is freely available ) contain a lot of information. Now, much of this information is HTML in one form or another .

The communication capabilities provided by Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 and later have helped transform the Web into a powerful space where you can both work and play. The number of HTML pages and their complexity, together with the total number of end-product consumers, have significantly increased overall Internet traffic. Together with all the benefits that application developers received, this led to a number of problems. Among these problems are:

• Delivery of content via the Internet ( across the wire ).
• When delivered, the content should quickly appear on the screen.
