Print support promised a year ago appeared in ReactOS
Remember this video ? We promised print support "very soon." Well, very soon ... in the end, a year passed. But the promised three years are waiting, and we managed in just one! There were two reasons for this delay:
1) the main and only developer of the print stack, Colin Fink, went for almost a year to the internship (manufacturing practice) in the USA; 2) for almost a year we waited until the Wine project team accepted our fixes to the RPC service, so that we could correctly backport / synchronize them.
But now these difficulties are overcome. Colin is back, the patch is accepted. Therefore, Colin solemnly “flooded” his experimental branch into the main code base of the ReactOS project. Starting with revision # 73039, print service is available for tests in nightly builds . ')
Many will be interested to know that Colin Fink designed the print stack as part of his undergraduate thesis “Analysis, Design and Implementation of the Open-Source ReactOS Operating System” . Now everyone can see the PDF with its work online for free and without SMS.
Jarred Smadd shows how a printer works:
Unfortunately, while only LPT printers are supported, and in the release of 0.4.3 that is imminent, the seal will not fall (but it will definitely be in 0.4.4).
Pre-release testing version 0.4.3
At the moment, you can very seriously help the project if you take part in pre-testing applications for the upcoming version 0.4.3, which will be released on November 15, 2016. Testing Center is here . Follow the instructions in the header of the page and test applications that have an empty comment field or are marked as “Run w / o result” in it.
