Jason Calacanis announced a new product from the social platform
Mahalo , which allows users to visit most of the famous social networks directly from the site Mahalo.
The idea of combining social networks on one page is not new, we already wrote about the attempts of
MyLifeBrand ,
ProfileLinker and
Loopster to create something similar, but their projects were not particularly popular. Mahalo is trying to improve this service by helping those who have profiles on Twitter, Facebook, MySpace, LinkedIn, Flickr, YouTube, etc.
It's pretty simple. You enter the username or user ID, and the system itself displays your profiles on the screen. Much remains to be improved and changed, for example, for Facebook you need to enter the full URL (as indicated on the site) and LinkedIn (which is not indicated). From one page you can visit all your profiles in social networks. I noticed that the addresses of about half of the pages I opened are remembered and they do not need to be re-entered, the addresses of others were not saved at first, but after registration everything worked fine.

I will not use all the services of Mahalo, but some people once told me that using Mahalo search engine would only be abnormal. It always seemed to me that this is a little unfair, because the search is not bad in principle and the users will like it. Of course, I will not start from tomorrow only using the Mahalo search engine, just as you will not. Just take a look at Mahalo Multiprofiles.
The site is very simple and convenient, and I will use it. This is still an imperfect system of combining social networks (visit Google Socialstream to find out how it will look like in the end), but currently Mahalo Multiprofiles will appeal to many who are trying to cope with a large number of profiles in various social networks.
It is not yet clear in which direction Mahalo will move. Mahalo now offers a social networking platform, and its search is becoming more and more like Weblogs Inc, rather than the search engine. An example is Celebrity Gossip pages: these are not search results, this is more like generating content.
Calacanis has always been good at putting sites like this together, so everything that happens can be part of this strategy. Until the end of 2008, Mahalo will not be considered a search engine.
