In Russian, with love from MI5

Spies from Moscow and Beijing pose such a significant threat that MI5 translated its website into Russian and Chinese, with the goal of recruiting informants.

Along with English, the MI5 website already had versions in Arabic and Urdu, as well as in Welsh, which is required by British law. MI5 expects that the translation will induce Russians and Chinese living in Britain to contact the British counterintelligence if they suspect anything. In this way, MI5 also intends to make it clear to Moscow and Beijing that the secret service is on alert and is monitoring their activities. A French version of the site was also added, but not because of the potential threat from Paris, but because the French is a recognized international language.

However, emails written using Cyrillic or Chinese characters still cannot be received normally, so potential informants are invited to send emails to MI5 using regular mail.

“According to our estimates, at least 20 foreign intelligence services act to one degree or another against the interests of the United Kingdom,” they say in MI5. “The number of Russian intelligence officers in London is estimated to be at least 30 people and has not decreased since the cold war.”

From the translator. This is an article from The Times.
