Golden Telecom acquired 65% of Fortland
Golden Telecom (GT) bought a 65% stake in Fortland Limited, an operator with licenses for digital TV broadcasting in DVB format. Together with information about the completion of the transaction, its value was announced - $ 51 million. GT, which recently received a loan of $ 275 million, plans to expand its network to 22 cities in Russia with a total population of 35 million people.
The deployment of DVB-transmitters will begin in the first half of 2007. Directly launch services scheduled for the IV quarter. At the same time, GT is going to negotiate with the largest providers of television content for its use in broadcasting.
Commenting on the deal, the general manager of the company, Jean-Pierre Vandromme, said that the acquisition made absolutely fit into the GT strategy aimed at developing broadband access services and would allow the existing offer to be supplemented with Tiple Play services.
