Report Multimedia Semantics Incubator Group at W3C
A large number of applications that handle multimedia receive description information about the content from the metadata. The machine "understanding" of the metadata coming from the multimedia file is unconditional, but the problem with semantics sometimes arises when working with distributed multimedia systems. W3C Multimedia Semantics XG works on these issues in several ways.
W3C Multimedia Semantics XG has published a report showing the advantages of using semantic web languages and technologies for creating, storing, managing, exchanging and processing image metadata * and, more generally, for different types of media ** . Both cases contain variants of representations showing problems when combining several metadata standards. They explain how the use of web semantic languages improves compatibility and provides numerous transformations of existing standards to OWL / RDF, as well as instructions on using semantic web languages to annotate multimedia content.
In addition, the group maintains a relevant list of multimedia metadata standards, as well as RDF / OWL ontologies representing their *** . A list of publicly available multimedia metadata processing tools is also provided.
Finally, given the special status of MPEG - 7, the last document published by the group presents various “ontologization” of the MPEG format - 7 **** .
Multimedia Semantics XG would like to continue its work in the framework of the new W3C XG (to be created), and the connection of its results with the industry.
