Erick van Egeraat won a tender for the construction of a national library in the capital of Tatarstan Kazan.

A new building with an area of 81,000 m
2 will be built in the very center of Kazan. The 18 meter high hall is conceived as a kind of portal through which the city dwellers will enter
in the kingdom of books.

It is planned that a large area in front of the library and a spacious gallery inside the library will become a meeting place, a recreation area and a pleasant pastime.

Located in the southern part of the city center, the library will organically fit into the existing hilly landscape (from which, apparently, the shape of the building was born).

Over time, it is planned that the library building complex will become the center of social life.

According to Erick van Egeraat, he wanted “... to invite citizens to the wonderful world of discoveries and knowledge, because the library will become a repository of all modern ways of obtaining information ...”
