ROMIR Monitoring: Runet inhabits 21% of Russians

About 24 million people reached the Runet audience in the fourth quarter of 2006, which is equivalent to 21% of the country's population, according to ROMIR Monitoring , summing up the monthly surveys of Russians. At the same time, a decrease in the indicator is stated - in the third quarter of 2006, 22% of the population of Russia visited the Internet at various intervals.



Leonid Delitsyn, FINAM IT fund expert consultant, notes that in the last quarter of 2006, ROMIR increased the sample to 4,934 respondents (previously it was about 1,600 people). According to him, this reduced the statistical error, but the differences in the indicators of the fourth and third quarters are still not obvious enough.



“Summer 22% (using the Internet - approx.) From 1600 respondents are 352 people, - the expert says. - The standard error is equal to 19 people or 5%. This means that in the summer at 95% we could only be sure that the number of Internet users ranged from 20 to 24% of the population. In the last quarter of 2006, the sample was significantly larger, and now we can be 95% sure that the number of users is between 20 and 22% of the population. ”

“The summer value of 22% falls into this interval,” Delitsyn points out. “In short, by simply comparing the summer and autumn values, no conclusion can be drawn about the dynamics of the Internet.” According to the expert, to make such a conclusion, you need to either increase the sample several times, or analyze the long-term trend.



Note that the ROMIR chart, based on regular data on the number of Internet users, allows us to judge the annual growth of the Runet audience. According to him, the growth is about 23.5% with monthly audience indicators of 17% and 21% of the population in the 4th quarter of 2005 and 2006 ... The growth of the weekly audience over the year over the same period was 28.6% (from 14 to 18 % of Russians), and daily - 40% (from 5 to 7% of Russians).



According to other data from ROMIR, in the fourth quarter of 2006, the largest group of users of the Runet continues to be a weekly audience - it was 11% of Russia's residents over 18 years old. Most Internet users in the Central region, where their 25% of the total. Compared with the third quarter of 2006, the number of users in the Southern region has decreased. Arrived in their regiment in the Far East, in the North-West and Volga regions.



In the fourth quarter of 2006, the ratio of men and women remained unchanged - 25% of men and 18% of women use the Internet. At the same time, young people from 18 to 24 years old still prevail among them, accounting for 46% of users. With increasing age, the share of Internet users decreases. The average age of the Internet user is 33 years.



As before, the highest among the audience of the Runet is the percentage of students of managers and qualified specialists.
