USB killer type-c

image If my memory does not change me, the first device equipped with a USB Type-C connector was a tablet from Nokia , alas, it became a headstone for this Greatest mobile phone manufacturer. Nevertheless, the new connector began to be actively used in the new technology and every day the number of devices supporting USB Type-C interface is becoming more and more, something needs to be done with it. With you Dark_Purple and today we will kill Brand New Apple MacBook 12 ”(Early 2016), but hello!

USB killer type-c

The “SanDisk Ultra USB Type-C” USB flash drive was selected as the basis for the device:

It is compact, folding, has a Type-C connector, these are the criteria for choosing from. As it turned out, there is no printed circuit board in the drive, its role is played by a microcircuit (obviously custom-made, specially for this drive) flash memory and it is also a USB controller. Very compact highly integrated solution, in fact a connector and a microcircuit - that's the whole flash drive:
')

Well, great. We measure the very microcircuit, the available space for a new “stuffing” and proceed to the development of our own printed circuit board instead of the standard one. And after a while we have the result:

Nearer:

And a couple more shots:

On the other hand:

For those who do not understand, I will explain, the pictures show two printed circuit boards of the device (even without soldered type-C connectors) as part of one blank, also under the “blur” two more printed circuit boards for my other project.

Break out the board from the workpiece, solder the connector and get almost ready device:

We collect:

And here he is "SanDisk USB Killer Type-C" .:

The red letter "K" seems to be hinting ... Yes, I almost forgot to write about the technical details, capacitors are charged up to 100V, this restriction is imposed by the design of the USB type-C connector and the available dimensions. Otherwise, the principle of operation is similar to that in previous versions ( USB killer and USB killer v2.0 ) devices.

Group shot:

Testing

The video was quite emotional, so the sound had to be cut, sorry.

Microsoft Lumia 950:

After coping with the newly developed device, the smartphone immediately went to another world. For some time after these manipulations, he still warmed significantly until the battery charge ran out.

Apple MacBook 12 ”(Early 2016). The video was shot with one double from unpacking to the very end:

After the first connection, the Californian laptop, although reluctantly, but succumbed to the entreaties of Killer's USB, to be honest, I thought this was the end. However, the charging worked and the laptop booted again, but he could not see the flash drive. Repeated contact with USB Killer again led to the shutdown of the laptop and the complete inoperability of the USB interface.

Nevertheless, the laptop showed itself with dignity, he continued to work - Apple knows how to do things! True, it is no longer possible to charge and connect anything to it, and after the battery “sits down,” the computer will only have to be thrown away.

PS USB Killer project is purely research in nature, the device has never been sold and is not sold at the moment. The original information is presented only on the site habrahabr.ru and on my youtube channel.
